Languages at Valley
‘Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures.’ - Languages programmes of study: Key stage 2 National curriculum in England.
From 2023, Spanish is now taught in Key Stage 2 as the modern foreign language with the lessons being delivered by the Class Teachers. To support the teacher in the delivery of their Spanish lessons, Valley Primary School uses Language Angels. This platform offers a complete suite of teaching resources with interactive teaching materials for every lesson. The resources used in lessons have been developed by an experienced team of foreign language teaching specialists and linguists.
During this school year, each year group from Year 3 to Year 6 are accessing a range of introductory modules to familiarise themselves with core vocabulary and to allow them to hear and practise the correct pronunciation used in Spanish. The modules being studied in the Spring and Summer terms are set out below:
In addition to this we use Linguascope as part of our learning and assessment. Linguascope.com offers interactive resources to match the curriculum requirements. The content ranges from elementary to intermediate level. Organised in topic areas, the materials are presented via a host of immersive multimedia activities. Children are encouraged to practise the new vocabulary learned in school at home.
