Valley’s School Council is an opportunity for us to hear the Pupil Voice! We want Valley's learners to play an active role in decisions affecting them. We value the opportunity for our pupils to help plan how to make our school even better, thinking about what actions to take, as well as taking responsibility for these actions.
School Council is a group of children, from Reception to Year 6, who meet at least once every half term. At these meetings, Councillors have the chance to discuss how to make our school even better. These might be problems that need to be solved or new ideas.
Each class has 2 School Councillors who are voted by the class at the start of the academic year and they are the School Councillors for the whole school year. Additionally, a different 'Guest Member' from each class attends every meeting to allow more children to share their views and ideas. This is somebody that the teacher feels has shown some or all of the qualities listed below during the previous half term:
- Commitment to making our school even better
- Approachable
- Friendly
- Able to communicate well with children and adults
- Have initiative
- Be a good listener
In recent times School Council have worked on various projects. These include fundraising for two Friendship Benches placed on our playgrounds, initiating a ‘Quiet Area’ at lunch time for children who desire a quieter space, creating an afterschool Eco Club and helping reach various decisions surrounding playtime and lesson times! School Council continues to meet, always with the same thought in mind – ‘how can we make Valley even better?’
